This is the seventh day of my trip to Uganda to participate in "Encouraging Girls to Study and Major in Science."
Travel to Namagunga,
an area north-east of Kampala.
Event Log:
7:00AM GMT+3 - Left Dan's house for the US Embassy.
9:30AM GMT+3 - Departed the US Embassy for Namagunga.
11:30AM GMT+3 - Arrived at Mount Saint Mary's College.
Unfortunately we were supposed to be there at 11:00AM GMT+3, but the traffic was really bad so we were running late. The
people at the school were very nice and once we got there they reassembled all of the girls for the presentation.
It was quite a large crowd which was great to see. As with most of the schools, the girls waited until the end to
ask questions. As always they had great questions and were very eager to learn about astronomy and science.
At the very end, after one of the girls thanked me, the group again sang which was incredibly special.
Taking a question after my presentation at Mt Saint Mary's.
Presentation of the telescope at Mt Saint Mary's. The Headmistress is on the left.
1:30PM GMT+3 - We stopped to have lunch at the
Ridar Hotel on the way back to Kampala.
3:00PM GMT+3 - Arrived back at Dan's in Bugolobi.
Overall Thoughts
Mt Saint Mary's seemed to be a very big school. The auditorium in which I gave my
presentation was large with lots of seating and a stage. Unique to this school was the fact that the girls did not wear
uniforms as with the other schools. I did not find out if this was just something unique to this school or just this particular
day. Many of the girls were very interested in astronomy and they were very happy and excited to receive the telescope.
