Biography

Dr. Kritsuk was born and raised in Leningrad, USSR. He was an undergraduate at Leningrad State University in Astronomy before completing his Ph.D. in 1984 at the same school in Astrophysics. He continued at Leningrad State University from 1985 through 2000 with some time out at Max Planck Institutes in Germany. Dr. Kritsuk has been at UCSD since 2000.

Research Interests

Theoretical and Computational Astrophysics: Physics of the multiphase interstellar medium, molecular clouds, star formation, and feedback processes. Intracluster medium, AGN feedback, and turbulence in clusters of galaxies. Compressible magnetized turbulence in astrophysical systems and beyond.

Projects

His research focuses on how interstellar turbulence and feedback processes regulate star formation in molecular clouds. He is using large-scale simulations on world's most powerful supercomputers to address this problem. He is interested in understanding phenomenology of compressible turbulence in magnetized interstellar medium - the cornerstone of a successful statistical theory of star formation. Dr. Kritsuk is also working on how the diffuse interstellar medium generates star-forming molecular clouds in the context of global galactic disk models.
